Its the old prince and the pauper story, except that were not supposed to be seeing one disappear and become another. Were always meant to be aware of a star attempting to erase his aura of stardom, and of an ordinary man dreaming about becoming a star. As much as the film is about Vicky and Vignesh, it also functions as a chronicle of Siddharths attempts to be seen as the actor whos more than just the Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi guy, the Rang De Basanti guy. At its core, Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi is a romantic comedy, an irreverent take on the idea of falling in love, on living everyday as if there were no tomorrow. Its about two people trying to live through everyday as an alternative to falling in love. Its a comedy with a streak of reality. But, when its not a gag at the expense of the other, it conveys the very practical idea of a relationship. Im not sure if its been acknowledged for its attempt at such a complex, relatable take on the idea of a relationship.

The thing about Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi is that its a great underdog film. Take away the wrestling and the song, even the film would be an underdog story. Its a film about being underestimated, about having to work hard to be successful, about loving without being in love, but loving enough to know that you might actually lose.
